Cedar Rapids Coffee Lovers Will Soon Quench Thirst in New Spot

Coffee lovers, especially on Cedar Rapids’ western edge and beyond, are rejoicing at the news that their favorite place for coffee and more is opening a new location.

Construction has been ongoing for several months just south of the Casey’s General Store located at the corner of Edgewood Road and Blairs Ferry Road NE. We can now tell you that the building will feature three tenants, with two spots already leased.

Lot 2 at Edgewood Town Centre is where the new building is being constructed, right along the west side of Edgewood Road, between Fleet Farm Fuel and Casey’s. The photo below is what the building looks like from Edgewood Road, as of this morning.

The front of the building actually faces west, away from Edgewood Road. Concrete trucks were on site this morning as work on the large parking lot continues.

According to Q4 Real Estate, Starbucks will be opening its newest Cedar Rapids location in the far left portion of the building, in the photo above. A drive-thru lane wraps around the building from the south side to the east, and eventually to the north side of the building. That will provide a lot of space for drive-thru vehicles. As you know, Starbucks stores draw a crowd.

This will be the 10th Starbucks location in Cedar Rapids, but if you’re concerned about nearby locations closing, you can relax. A manager at the Starbucks at 2615 Blairs Ferry Road, just over a mile away, confirmed to me today that that location is not closing. DJ Vega, manager of the Hy-Vee at 5050 Edgewood Road NE, approximately three-tenths of a mile from the new Starbucks, told me this morning the store will continue to sell Starbucks inside.

Byers reports the right side of the building will be occupied by a national cell phone store. The name of the company has not been revealed. I know, not exciting unless you’ve waited in line at one for an hour plus recently. It seems there’s always a wait.

The center of the building, just over 2,800 square feet, has not yet been leased.

According to Byers, the building is expected to open early in 2023.
